Fifteen years across mobile, front-end, cloud and, lately, AI-assisted engineering. What each employer was building is theirs to talk about, so this is the engineering: the problems, the practices and the stack.

  1. 2025 – now

    Expert Software Engineer

    Delta Dental of California

    AI-assisted engineering, security and operational maturity

    • Brought agent-assisted development into everyday engineering work: reusable agent skills that generate integration and browser tests, turn design files into components, and check a rendered UI against its design, plus the context engineering that keeps their output relevant and affordable.
    • Ran a three-day AI training programme and regular showcase sessions so engineers, QA and analysts could use these tools on their own work rather than watch a demo.
    • Hardened payments and identity: PCI-compliant card capture, token validation, automated secret management, and a move onto modern enterprise identity with multi-factor authentication.
    • Matured the operational picture: service-level objective dashboards, synthetic monitoring across every environment, alerting, and automated post-deployment verification in place of a manual checklist.
    • Moved the estate onto current long-term-support runtimes, Node 24 and JDK 25, continuing the habit of upgrading a little at a time so no version jump becomes a project of its own.

  2. 2021 – 2025

    Expert Software Engineer

    Delta Dental of California

    Cloud migration, platform modernization and technical leadership

    • Led enterprise web applications from on-premises infrastructure onto Azure: application hosting, API management, edge delivery, managed SQL and object storage, with disaster-recovery exercises and operational runbooks handed to the teams who would carry them.
    • Kept a large estate current instead of letting it age: React 16 through 18, Node 14 through 22, Webpack 5, MobX 6, Java 17 and Spring Boot 3, and retired legacy middleware in favour of REST services and Java microservices.
    • Moved delivery onto declarative continuous deployment over Kubernetes with network segmentation, consolidated source control onto GitHub Enterprise Cloud, and cut downtime with rolling restarts and slot swaps.
    • Put static analysis, dependency and container scanning into every pipeline build, so vulnerabilities surfaced at build time rather than in an audit.
    • Led the observability move onto Datadog: tracing, real-user monitoring, synthetic checks and daily health reporting.
    • Led design reviews and code reviews, mentored and onboarded engineers, and ran a production-support programme for new joiners.

  3. 2018 – 2021

    Senior UI Developer, then Senior Software Engineer

    Delta Dental of California

    Design systems, micro-frontends and front-end performance

    • Built a React and Material UI component library with multiple themes, so several product teams could share one set of components without sharing one look.
    • Built the reference implementation for micro-frontends, both runtime and compile-time, covering server and client rendering trade-offs, analytics and asset loading.
    • Wrote the shared modules that every application ended up needing: configuration-driven OAuth 2.0, analytics, error handling, and an HTTP client that carried cloud tokens.
    • Diagnosed and fixed production memory leaks in component and state-management code, and brought average page load under three seconds with lazy loading, compression and edge caching.
    • Built the first dashboards the teams actually watched, and set up mock servers so front-end work and integration tests did not wait on back-end availability.

  4. 2016 – 2018

    Senior Front-End Developer

    Pixel-exact, localized, accessible interfaces at scale

    • Built web modules in an in-house observable-based JavaScript framework, close in model to React with Redux, matching design specifications exactly.
    • Worked in a localized and accessible codebase as the default rather than the exception, across a wide set of locales.
    • Delivered more than a hundred responsive HTML email templates that render correctly across the major mail clients, and document templates in XSL-FO.

  5. 2010 – 2016

    Mobile and Web Application Developer

    Tata Consultancy Services, consulting for HP

    Cross-platform mobile from a single codebase

    • Built applications for iOS, Android, Windows Phone and Windows tablets from one codebase, in the era when that meant a web view and a lot of care.
    • Integrated the device layer: push notifications on three platforms, camera-based QR and barcode scanning, location and maps, offline storage, and interactive floor maps drawn on HTML5 canvas.
    • Handled signing, store submission and in-house distribution across the Apple, Google and Microsoft stores, and the compatibility work that came with four platforms and four browsers.
    • Wrote unit tests and ran them on real devices through a device cloud, and extended Java and Spring REST services on MySQL behind the apps.
